This powder has been sitting on my vanity table for some time because I never reach out to it that often. I didn’t understand why so many people were raving about it, but when I used it, this powder didn’t do anything for me. Turns out I have been using it all wrong!
In this post, I will share the mistakes when using Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Powder and how I apply it now.
Mistake #1: I picked the wrong shade
Although this powder is semi-translucent, a wrong shade will make the complexion darker or lighter.
My first Huda Beauty powder was a mini size in the shade banana bread; it is described as “golden undertone” on the official website. This shade is too light and too yellow on my neutral, peachy undertone skin.
The second shade I bought was peach pie, and it was closer to my skin tone. The peachy undertone also helps colour correct post-acne marks and eye bags.

Mistake #2: I paired with matte foundation
When I tried peach pie on its own, I knew that it was perfect for my skin tone. But when I paired it with a foundation, the powder made my skin dull. Like I got one shade darker.
You see, I typically like my foundation matte and perfectly matched to my skin shade. The problem is, matte foundations tend to go darker when they set. The peach pie powder adds peachy colour and makes the foundation even more matte, which causes my complexion to go darker.
Now I paired it with a foundation that is one shade lighter than mine and with a more satin finish as compared to matte. I am currently loving Parnell Cicamanu Serum Cushion in the shade 24W, which on its own has a very beautiful glowy finish.
I used to pair it with my beloved IT Cosmetics Natural Matte CC Foundation in the shade Light Medium because it has excellent oil control. Maybe next time, I will pair it with the lighter shade from them.
Mistake #3: I applied it wrong
I used to tap my puff to the mesh container, and it was hard to get the amount of powder that I needed to set my face. But, when I use too much, it makes my face cakey and dull.
The solution was very easy, and it lies on the lid.
First, I removed the mesh lid (the black lid separating the logo lid and the mesh). Next, I put back the logo lid and secure it to the body. Then, I turn the product downwards and shake twice. Lastly, open the product while the lid is still facing downwards.
The result is a perfectly dosed powder to set and blur the entire face.

What you will need…
- Pizza puff
- Big fluffy brush
- Hand fan

When setting the foundation, I highly recommend not powdering while the foundation is still wet. Otherwise, it will be cakey and clump together. Not cute.
The tip many Indonesian MUAs use is to use a hand fan, which can be battery-operated or a normal one, to help make the foundation set faster. I found that tip works well on my skin and makes my foundation last longer too.
I personally also love to apply this powder using a pizza puff because it allows me to press into the pores and properly cover the under-eye areas.
After pressing the powder into the skin, I like to use a big, clean, fluffy brush to blend everything to make sure it’s even.
Thoughts about the product
Oil Control
The oil control power of the Easy Bake Loose Powder is nothing in comparison to my favourites: MAC Cosmetics Set & Blur Powder and LANEIGE Neo Powder. But I love how Easy Bake makes my skin so silky smooth and with a satin matte finish. It does not make my base makeup look “obvious”, if you know what I mean.
Staying Power
It does set my makeup to stay all day. Yesterday, I did my makeup at 1 PM and went out to see my friends, and my makeup was still perfectly there by 9 PM.
Obviously, my face has turned oily and shiny in just 1-2 hours, but it was manageable by using an oil-blotting paper and touching up with a powder.
My Shade Choice
I think I might want to try the new duo version to get cherry blossom and peach pie in one product. I have a neutral undertone, and I found that the blue undertone in the cherry blossom shade can neutralise the yellowness on peach pie.
I’m going to finish mine first before purchasing the new duo version.
